1. The Department of Early Childhood Education in our school was founded in 1992. The main objective is to foster early childhood professionals, provide on-the-job training opportunities for teachers in the field, and enhance professional knowledge of early childhood education. Following the establishment of the Master’s Program in Early Childhood Education, research on early childhood education related issues was strengthened to enhance the research capabilities of students. In 2011, the department engaged in integration of school’s existing resources and completed integration and merger with Graduate Institute of Early Intervention and the Experimental Center of Early Intervention. After the integration and merger, the department became the only academic institution in Taiwan with early intervention and childhood education expertise.

2. Curriculum Planning: The undergraduate programs in the department cover a wide range of teaching methods and teaching assessment methods in the planning of professional early childhood education courses and pre-employment curriculums for early childhood teachers, courses that foster early childhood research and management personnel, as well as courses and teaching, early intervention, arts, languages, basic education theories, and professional conservation courses. Additionally, through professional planning, early childhood education electives are available for students to select from and improve their expertise. Students in this department may also file an application for the Curriculum in Master’s Program during their fourth year of college, so as to complete the bachelor’s and Master’s Program in five years.
The Curriculum in the Master’s Program allotted by this department covers five fields: research methods, early child hood development, curriculum and teaching, community integration integrated into education, and other, which are intended to achieve the goals of fostering graduate students’ professional knowledge of early childhood education research and management, multiple intelligence and humanistic quality, as well as cultivating graduate students’ global view and technical application capacity. The planning of the master program for early intervention comprises the direction towards integration and learning research in three fields, namely, medical rehabilitation, special education, and social work, coupled with research methods and theories required in the graduate school stage.

3. Future Prospect and Development: All courses offered by the department are allotted for four years. Graduates interested in education work must obtain a qualified preschool teacher certification after passing the teacher qualifying examination, and then complete a six-month teaching practicum. The graduates in this department can also engage in early childhood education-related work, such as early childhood literature publications, early childhood music education, early childhood art education, early childhood physical education, or early childhood education related businesses. Those interested in early childhood education research and teacher training work may apply for entrance examination into early childhood education related graduate institutes or further their studies abroad. After graduating from the Master’s Program in Early Intervention, students will be competent to take up early intervention related work in a county or city government. In particular, in planning and execution, whether social welfare, medical rehabilitation, or special education, students will be able to play to their strengths and achieve outstanding performance in the workplace.
